If Only I Had No Shame

Posted by Devin Parker

Well, I don't have much shame, but if only I had none at all, I could finally find some lucrative work. It seems like every few days, Craigslist will include a job posting for the pornography industry. $160 a day for basic Photoshop work, for example.

Man.

Horrid. Ugh.

Maybe if it was Christian porn, that would be okay...

Now Michael has got me pondering the Biblical legalities of Christian porn, and whether or not that was logistically possible.

I'm going to assume "no" - but that's assuming that the word 'porn' is simply pornographic movies. However, one might make the argument that *written* erotic stores, used as a way of bringing couples closer together in the bedroom, could be done in a style that honored Christian values. Yes?

I mean, within the Christian marriage, finding joy in sex with your spouse is perfectly morally acceptable - and sharing erotic stories with your spouse is one way to accentuate that sexual relationship. Having a specific sub-genre of Christian-based erotic stories - where the characters were all in loving, monogamous relationships - doesn't seem too off base.

Does it?

(And, yes, I AM avoiding studying for finals. Why do you ask? *grin*)

Christian porn eh?

If it's gonna be Christian porn, then you'd better ask the One whose name will be on it. Ask Him if you should make it, and then ask Him which of His children He wants you to share it with.

Sheesh!

Well, it was a joke... though now I feel a bit bad for making it.

Silverstah, the difficulty with erotic stories is that they shift the focus outward from one's partner. You're right in that joy of one another within marriage is entirely a Godly thing—it's a command, actually (thanks, Paul!)—and if something as steamy as Song of Songs can be in the bible, then sensual writing can apparently have a place.

I'd suggest spouses writing notes to or stories for one another would be fine, but as soon as you start bringing others into the picture, I think the difficulties and dangers outweigh any potential benefits.
